Hyman's Seafood-not a tourist trap!!
I have worked at Hyman's Seafood for almost five years and as much of a love-hate relationship that we have, I can say that Hyman's is a great restaurant. Guest experience and hospitality is their number one priority and the service is outstanding. I could bet that a majority of locals who say Hyman's is a tourist trap have never even eaten there. And for those that are set on the whole tourist trap idea, consider this...I would rate Hyman's seafood quality at the same level as restaurants like the Crab Shack on Market, Fleet Landing, and maybe slightly under that of Hank's Seafood. Also, compare the prices of all of these places and you'll find that Hyman's is cheaper than all of these places. Try getting about twenty medium size shrimp(prepared how ever you'd like), slaw, a side, and hushpuppies at any other seafood restaurant in Charleston for under $20. Yes, the major market segment for Hyman's is tourists but most locals don't even realize that Hyman's offers VIP cards to locals which allows them to skip the wait, receive a free desert or bottle of wine and a $15 gift card on their birthday, and get validated parking (which as locals know can be a pain in Charleston). Basically, Hyman's Seafood is an empire but does care for every customer that walks through their doors.
